THE OTHER SIDE OF BOHOL 2013
When we speak of Bohol, the usual tourist spots that come to mind are the ffg:* The Famous Chocolate Hills as viewed from Carmen, Bohol
* Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary in Corella
* The Floating restaurants in Loboc River
* Loboc Ecotourism Adventure Park
* E.A.T Danao
* Baclayon Church & many other old churches
Since many of our members have already been to the these places, our group decided to see the "other side" of Bohol, equally enjoyable although not as explored. Our itinerary is as shown below:
For this post, we will tackle first the ffg: (Part I)

3. Loon Macaques
Part II topics shall be:
4. Mag-Aso Falls
5. Badiang Spring

1. Cebu-Tubigon, Bohol
Our assembly time was at around 5 AM since the ferry's ETD is around 5:30AM.
Picture-taking while waiting at the port terminal ;p

We paid Php 230.00 for the Tourist Class fare and ate our takeout breakfast from a popular fastfood chain inside the ferry.

|
We watched comedy shows then the movie Piranha inside the bus 0_o |
2. Sagbayan Peak
The entrance fee was 30 pesos and with only 30 minutes to tour the area, we soon realized that Sagbayan Peak quite lived up to its name in that before you even reach the peak of the 2nd hill, we were already gasping for breath!
We had to climb lots of steps before we we're formally welcomed by this Pizza Man. |
Hmm...Reminds me of HongKong DisneyLand :) |
Kids at Heart! :D
Lots of Parks!
And those are all just on the first hill!
You go down from the 1st hill, then up again to reach the peak of the
2nd hill. So orange-y! hehe ;p
View from the Peak 2nd hill. So orange-y! hehe ;p
After the protocol jump, it's time to go back for the next destination...
We've just conquered Sagbayan Peak in less than 30 minutes, and as our first stop, it was one heck of a warm-up. Whew! ^_^
3. Loon Macaques & Habitat
One of Bohol's newest tourist attractions involves a species of crab-eating macaques (Macaca fascicularis philippinensis) inhabiting the pristine mangrove forest in Cantomucad, Loon.
The Habitat includes a visitors’ center with courtesy booth and restrooms, souvenir shops for Loon-made products.
They say that the long-tailed macaques are excellent swimmers (unlike gibbons and langurs which abhor water) and is able to cross mangroves channels in search of new foraging sites.
Loon Macaques also features a well-protected mangrovetum or mangrove garden the species of which have been identified by the Bohol Environment Management Office
Considered as true monkeys, these animals have a very intricate social structure and hierarchy. We've witnessed how the Alpha Male was always on the front during feeding time, and chased any subordinate who dared sharing in the "banquet".
The entrance fee of only 30 pesos was worth it.
Viewing time
- Macaques: 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN
- Habitat: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
30 minutes up! Time to head back to our coaster and leave our macaques relatives to continue their monkey business. :)
